Nature Got It Right

Diet – Activity – Sleep – Brain Wellness

HealthCoach

Hi, my name is Gerald J. Joseph and I have 30 years of experience working as a lifestyle wellness coach helping both adults and children improve their health, and brain wellness by using nature and science as my guide.

I concluded very early in my career, that people need help with motivation and the right plan to detox their bodies from the Western American diet, to lose and maintain a healthy weight, to strengthen their muscles, to become more flexible and to increase cardiovascular capacity.

HealthCoach is a lifestyle wellness program, developed after years of research, observation, and practice, emphasizing a return to a more holistic non-industrial diet, a physical activity program that improves human performance, increases flexibility, strength, sleep, mental health and brain wellness.

Recently, I spoke with an Olympic athlete who competed in the Rio de Janeiro Olympics. She told me how much better she felt while training and competing after making the dietary and exercise changes that Gerald recommended to her. She said she easily shed some unwanted pounds and was able to physically and mentally perform better than before. As a former national-class bicycle racer, I knew that this was not easy to do as the Olympic coaches have the state-of-the-art understanding of training techniques, but Gerald was still able to substantially improve the Olympian’s performance with his techniques.

The fight against this chronic disease persists, with new research explaining not only what triggers Type 2 diabetes, but also how to prevent, manage and even reverse it.

The HealthCoach diabetes prevention protocols are evidence-based and supported by clinical studies located in THE SCIENCE section of the HealthCoach website.

Mental Health and Brain Wellness

Diet, physical activity, sleep and other aspects of our daily interaction with the environment have the potential to alter our mental health and brain wellness.

Emerging research on the pediatric microbiome implicates the importance of the microbiome on the development of the immune system, nervous system, and growth. The gut microbiome influences immunological, endocrine, and neural pathways and plays an important role in infant development.

Patients with various psychiatric disorders including depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and autism spectrum disorder have been shown to have significant differences in the composition of their gut microbiome. Enhancing beneficial bacteria in the gut and reducing GI Inflammation can improve mental health.

Additionally, obesity and diabetes are inflammatory conditions that not only contribute to cardiovascular disease and cancer but also serve as profound comorbidities; their shared etiologies promote one another.

The Science of HealthCoach

There has been a dramatic shift in the leading causes of death in the US in the past 100 years.

Whereas infectious diseases were the primary cause of death in the early 20th century, cardiovascular disease and cancer have now assumed dominance in mortality.

Metabolic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, hypertension and even neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s which all have common factors. Four key factors that are facilitating the rise and development of chronic metabolic diseases and mental health issues in Americans are – malnutrition, lack of physical activity, how well you sleep and the lack of diversity in healthy gut microbes leading to gut dysbiosis.

Additionally, obesity and diabetes are inflammatory conditions that not only contribute to cardiovascular disease and cancer but also serve as profound comorbidities; their shared etiologies promote one another.

Nature Got It Right

The management and treatment of chronic illness is a matter of great debate among healthcare professionals today. With existing treatment measures deemed largely ineffective, a different approach is needed. Accordingly, HealthCoach investigates the role of diet, lack of physical activity, insufficient sleep, and lack of happiness in the development of chronic metabolic diseases and brain wellness.

A study from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health found that 50 -year-old women, who maintained five healthy habits — exercising at least 30 minutes a day, following a healthy diet, maintaining a body mass index in the normal range, having no more than one serving of alcohol a day, and not smoking — lived on average 10.7 more years free of diseases, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer, compared with initially healthy women who practiced none of those habits at age 50.
